Yentl was taking practical training in our animal shelter...
Yentl, a student of Groenhorst Colleage www.groenhorstbarneveld.nl in Barnveld, the Netherlands, was taking practical training in our animal shelter BIM-Hoteichi from May 3 to May 22, 2009 in accordance with her task list.
Under the guidance and supervision of our doctors and veterinarian assistants she got an introduction and elementary training in the following: taking blood samples from dogs and cats, placing a catheter in a dog's vein, placing a catheter in a cat's vein, making injections to dogs and cats, intramuscular and subcutaneous, fixating the animals, treatment of wounds, cleaning dogs' ears, catching urine, checking the Mucous membrane, breathing and reflexes, measuring the pulse, development of X-ray pictures, stitching, removal of Calculus from dogs' teeth. Yentl got intensive practice in animal care.
This is the letter Yentl has sent to us from home:
Dear everybody from BIM Khoteichi!
This little note is ment to describe to you my big, or even very-very big thanks for everything during my stay at the shelter.
First of all thank you for giving me the great opportunity to let me practice at your shelter. Even though it was sometimes difficult with the languages, we managed most of the time to understand each other.
And if we didn't, there were three dictionaries!
Thank you for letting me see and experience how it really is like to be a veterinarian assistance.
Here the only way to find this out is to get your diploma first and after that gain the experience.
Before my practice here I was like a empty leaf with no experience, and now it is finally written with this incredible experience!
Last but not least, thank you for your big hospitality and let me stay at the shelter.
Normally I will get home sick but now I was maybe home sick at the last 3 days. And I didn't get the chance to get home sick
I hope that we will keep contact because you are all great people!
Keep on doing the good work you all do, I think this is one of the best shelters I have ever seen!
And I'm very proud to have worked here.
Yours,
Yentl Hofwijks
